Yup, it's an Afrikaans musical and before you judge it - it earned a little less than R2m at the box office in its opening weekend!It got the top spot at 17 Ster Kinekor Theatres and at 12 Nu Metro outlets against competition from movies like Red, starring Bruce Willis, and Jackass 3D. Think a love story in the line of Moulin Rouge, Mamma Mia! and High School Musical - but proudly South African and Afrikaans!
Just looking at it's opening weekend, Liefling got the highest earning for an Afrikaans film in 30 years, even earning more than some international hits like Slumdog Millionaire, Moulin Rouge and Chicago on their respective opening weekends!
