
In the past year, the monarchy has cost the British taxpayers nearly £32m, 5.3% down from last year as the cuts begin. Where was this first 5.3% taken from? the maintenance of royal residences - that leaky roof will just have to wait!
"The queen is very keen that the Royal Household should continue to reduce its expenditure in line with public expenditure reductions," said the royal family's treasurer, Sir Alan Reid.
As part of government's plan to start reducing Britain's deficit the Royals will need to tighten their belts in the years to come.
