Tutu vs. Government

Twitter has been on fire today as SA celebs, media personalities and even politicians have been tweeting their dissapointment at the cancelled Dalai Lama visit.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has been the most vocal in his feelings over the issue, condeming President Jacob Zuma's government for not allowing the the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, enty into SA.

Radio 702 presenter Kieno Kammies tweeted: "The pimple on the bum of Africa, Mugabe is allowed in, but not the dalai lama eish!!!!! The revolution has fallen flat on its face."

Yesterday, two days before Tutu's 80th birthday, the Dalai Lama - who first applied in June for a visa to visit South Africa - withdrew his application because he did "not want to create any inconvenience to anyone, individuals or governments," his office said.

City Press editor Ferial Haffajee posted:  "How can we not give a visa to the Dalai Lama? Mandela's South Africa? Tutu's South Africa? Maybe we aren't that anymore... make a noise!"
