Timbaland not that popular in SA?

Well, it seems that due to low ticket sales that concerts featuring Timbaland, R&B singer Ciara, hip-hop star Lil' Kim and rapper Fat Joe, that were part of 'ZARfest' have been cancelled.

The ZARfest tour was planned by controversial nightclub owner Kenny Kunene who planned the concerts to celebrate his clubs' (ZAR Lounges) first birthday. Apparently Durban and Cape Town "fans did not respond well".

"[Cancelling the two shows] was purely a business decision," he said. "Johannesburg ticket sales have been excellent. Those who bought Durban and Cape Town tickets can use their refunds to attend the show in Jozi. The show there remains unchanged," Kunene said.

The Creature Shop opens in Jozi

This is the place that nightmares are made of: when you walk into this particular shop be ready to be faced with body parts, severed heads, corpses and alien body...among other things!

This is realism to the max - the team behind the magic include Jaco Snyman, one of the men at the helm of the company, and his team of engineers, painters and sculptors, who supply monsters and such for feature films, documentaries, TV and Ads! Remember District 9? That was their work.

The Creature Shop garners clients by word-of-mouth but the competition is not exactly fierce. Not only is the shop super-specialised, the work takes "a certain kind of person," Snyman said.

Mayhem at the SAMAs (SA Music Awards)

In true SA style, there was drama on the night of the SAMAs (hosted at Montecasino for the first time) when some of those who were on the judges panel for the event didn't even get a seat due to poor organising!

Ukhozi FM's DJ Sgqemeza was one of those who ended up watching the awards from home - "We [the judges] went the extra mile during the judging and gave our best, but then we didn't get the treatment we deserved on the big night," he said.

The awards evening, moved from Sun City to Montecasino this year to make it more accessible to fans, went from bad to worse when some award winners reportedly took up to three minutes to reach the stage! People were ushers to wrong entrances, and 45 min into the show while some people were still fight to get into the door others were stumbling to find their seats!

Lets hope they learn something for next year!

Things haven't been easy for the band, and Marie most of all who showed the country that she has (still) "got the look" even after a bitter fight against brain cancer. In an interview, Roxette vocalist and guitarist Per Gessle said Fredriksson was being carefully monitored.

"Marie was so sick in 2002; the odds of her surviving at the time were 5%. "So this entire tour is basically planned around her. We make sure that we don't travel on days we have concerts," he said.

Street named after Oprah

After hosting one of the most popular daytime talk shows of all time in Chicago for 25 years, Chicago is finally giving a little back to the 57-year-old television diva in the form of a street name!

"Oprah Winfrey Way" can now be found on the 100th block of North Carpenter Avenue in the city where her chat show studio was, Harpo Studios.

She said: "It is really just a full-circle miracle story that a little coloured girl born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on a red dirt road ends up with my name on a street in the greatest city in the world, Chicago. So, thank you! That's better than an Oscar or an Emmy".

Even the Mayor -Richard Daley- was around when Oprah unveiled the new street sign: "There isn’t enough time or adequate words that can describe what your 25-year journey has meant to Chicago." he said. “It makes me very, very proud to have your name appear on one of Chicago’s city streets.”
