Street named after Oprah

After hosting one of the most popular daytime talk shows of all time in Chicago for 25 years, Chicago is finally giving a little back to the 57-year-old television diva in the form of a street name!

"Oprah Winfrey Way" can now be found on the 100th block of North Carpenter Avenue in the city where her chat show studio was, Harpo Studios.

She said: "It is really just a full-circle miracle story that a little coloured girl born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on a red dirt road ends up with my name on a street in the greatest city in the world, Chicago. So, thank you! That's better than an Oscar or an Emmy".

Even the Mayor -Richard Daley- was around when Oprah unveiled the new street sign: "There isn’t enough time or adequate words that can describe what your 25-year journey has meant to Chicago." he said. “It makes me very, very proud to have your name appear on one of Chicago’s city streets.”
