The biggest upset of the night was when singer/bassist Esperanza Spalding nabbed the best new artist, beating favoured contenders Drake and Justin Bieber. Spalding's the first jazz artist nominated for best new artist in 35 years, although she's is not exactly a newcomer because she released her first 'breakthrough' album in 2008.
Lady Antebellum walked away with four awards on being for song of the year for "Need You Now", while Eminem - even with his 10 nominations - only walked away with two prizes. Lady Gaga and rapper Jay-Z also won three awards each among all the rest.
