New HIV treatment available

It's an absolute priority to know your HIV status and we encourage all our users to know theirs. There are testing stations at every clinic around the country and all results remain private. Counselling is also provided- all of this is free of charge.

The Gauteng Government has announced that as of today- Thursday 1 April 2010, a new treatment will be available in all Gauteng hospitals and clinics.

The Government has implemented a new policy that entitles Pregnant Women and TB sufferers to recieve ARV's. Also all babies under one year old, irrespective of their CD4 count are entitled to treatment.

We think this is a great advancement in Government policy and thanks those involved in promoting such change.

Sandy to divorce

We never like to report on stories such as this one but Sandra Bullock has been all over the news, from her Oscar win for 'The Blind side', her terrible role in 'All about Steve' and of course most recently, her husband issues.

We love Sandy Bullock and were most devastated when the news broke about her husband having numerous affairs. Sandy is an American Sweetheart and has been in so many brilliant movies.

It has now emerged that Bullock has decided to move out of the couples home- which they shared during their marriage and get a divorce.

We are sad to hear about this but wish Sandy all the best!

Joe Jackson sues

Since Michael Jackson's death last year the Super Star has not been left alone. Then when he was finally put to rest at a massive memorial service- we thought, finally the man would be left in peace.

However Joe Jackson has now decided to sue Conrad Murray- the Doctor who is already facing charges of involuntary manslaughter for Michael's death.

Joe Jackson claims that Murray gave Michael drugs and did not call emergency services quick enough when Jackson stopped breathing. He apparently spent time cleaning up evidence! When Jackson finally arrived at the hospital he was momentarily revived but then his heart stopped beating all together.

We eagerly await the outcome of this one! And hope Joe Jackson will let this go at some point!

Your choice for SWC

Everyone is fulled with anticipation about this year's Soccer Wold Cup.

All South African's have kicked into Soccer mode, pulled out their Vuvuzela's and are safely guarding their tickets.

Not only will this be the first African Soccer World Cup but it will be the first world cup where the fans will be able to choose the 'man of the match' for each game. This is usuall done by a panel of Fifa representatives but this year a mobile and online voting system will be implemented and fans can vote after/during each game for the player they believe is most deserving of the award.

We think this is a great idea that will get fans more involved in each game and will fulfil the need for involvement fans are expressing. With only 67 days to go- we can't wait!

Instant Millionaire Parnell

South African cricketer Wayne Parnell has only recently been selected as part of the SA quad and within months the IPL wanted to buy him to play for the Delhi Daredevils.

He was contracted to play in the tournament for a cool R1million but before he could set foot on the field he suffered a groin injury and was sent home!

What happens now? Is the money still his? These are some of the questions media has been asking Parnell- who says his Agent Arthur Turner would know more.

Well all we have to say is R1 million is alot of money to knock a ball around! But we do love the South African cricket team!

Poacher killed

We have all heard terrible stories about poacher's and their ruthless tactics. The Kruger National Park has been dealing with these people for over a decade and still has not been able to eradicate them completely.

However it was reported yesterday that poacher's have been arrested in the Hazyview area. Three poachers set out on the March 12 to set traps for innocent animals in the Kruger Park. When they were walking home they ran into a herd of Hippo's who charged at them. The three were at that point separated!

Only two of the poacher's made it out alive and have now been arrested. The third man was killed by an unidentified animal.

Hopefully that will teach other poacher's not to set foot in the National park ever again!

Google China

We all know about Google, the worlds most effective online search engine. It is a powerful research tool and can find you almost anything on the net. It is not censored or bias in anyway...

Except in China.

Last year Google threathened to pull out of China as the country was censoring the search engine and not allowing it to 'pull' sites, it didn't deem appropriote. Google was insensed and outraged by this and started on their quest to either change this or leave.

Changes have now been made and Google users in China are now redirected to another Google site which is hosted in simplified Chinese.

We are glad a compromise has been met.

This news has sparked huge protests from school children who rallied outside the Protea magistrates court yesterday.

The case has however been prosponed to today, where we will hear if Jub Jub will be granted bail or not.

BRT

With the Soccer World Cup just around the corner we want everything to be working properly and running smoothly. South African's in general are doing their level best to ensure that this huge international even is a success...

However one of the most important things, not only for the SWC but also for the south African economy is at a standstill. Transport, of the most popular kind!

A significant amount of taxi drivers have been striking since yesterday and plan to continue to strike for the next couple of days. They say they were not informed about the next phase of the Bus Rapid Transport system which was implemented earlier in the week.

This lack of transport has been extremely inconvenient and has meant that a lot of people have not been able to go to work.

We just hope that the situation is resolved soon and life can go back to normal!

Bad news for Beckham fans

Sadly David Beckham will not be part of England’s National team when they come to the Soccer World Cup in June.

Beckham suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon yesterday when playing a game for AC Milan. The injury is server and Becks is set to be out of Soccer for the next 5-6 weeks! He even has to undergo surgery in Finland.

Beckham was so looking forward to being part of the England Squad and attending another World Cup- unfortunately his dreams have been dashed. The team has also expressed great disappointment.

We can only wish David a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the field.

ANC arrest

We heard earlier this week that ANC spokesperson- Jackson Mthembu had been arrested for driving in the bus lane, under the influence of alcohol! That was enough to shock most of us but now new report that have surfaced are horrifying.

It was reported earlier today that Cape Town SAPS refused to arrest Mthembu and take him into custody because he is 'high up in the ANC'.

When Metro cops brought Jackson to a police station to be docked, Police took hours to arrest him. This blatant set of double standards is not only shocking but extremely worrying...

Thank goodness for brave reporter's who are willing to expose theses sorts of injustices.

Highway closed

Johannesburg- If you are planning on using the N1 North or South today then think again!

After a massive accident that took place last night around 5pm, the highway has been closed. Yesterday in peak hour traffic a truck carrying metal rods crashed into a cement truck, it was thought that there were no fatalities but a man was discovered under the track by rescue workers.

The highway has been close for safety reasons as one of the trucks hit a crane used for roadworks and the crane is now at risk of falling over- once it has been stabilized and the scene has been properly cleared of any possible danger- the road will be re-open.

For the meantime, take back roads and please drive with care!

Potholes madness

Since we brought you such sad news yesterday, today we thought we would tell you some international news.

It seems that South African roads are not the only one's with potholes. The British government announced today that after the server winter they are just starting to come out of, an estimated billion pounds would need to be spent on mending the United Kingdom's roads.

That is over R10 million and it comes directly out of the tax payer's pocket.

Well thank goodness we are not the only one's with this pothole madness!

Drag racers kill 4

We hardly ever report on sad news but this is something we simply could not ignore.

Jub Jub a popular singer and his friend were drag racing each other yesterday when their mini coopers collided and knocked over and killed four teenagers walking on the pavement. Police have confirmed that the men had also been drinking.

Residence in Soweto- where the incident took place, say they are too scared to walk on the streets now and that the accused men must be held responsible. The victims were simply walking home from school.

All too often people in the public eye get away with murder- in this instance, quite literally!

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of these boys.

The Oscar's

The Oscar's is the biggest awards event in the film industry. It is the highest accolade that an Actor, Director or Screen writer can achieve.

This year South Africa played a big part in the Oscar's as we were nominated fo two films- Invictus and District 9. Both films were nominated in various catergories. All we had to do was wait until today to see if we would win any of the catergories we were nominated for.

Sadly so far neither Invictus or District 9 have won anything.

However in the most popular catergories of Best Actor and Actress, Sandra Bullock was awarded the Best Actress award while Jeff Bridges was awarded the Best Actor Oscar for Crazy heart.

The show isn't over yet and we are still hoping for an Oscar for either one of our SA based films.

Baby Ashleigh Louw

Baby Ashleigh Louw was born late last year with her heart outside her chest.

This rare discorder has not been seen by most Doctor's over the spam of their careers- so when Ashleigh came along many medical specialists were eager to get involved and help save Ashleigh's life.

When Ashleigh was first on the news we heard how Doctor's were going to preform many difficult and complicated surgeries to put Ashleighs heart back inside her chest but there was a great amount of hope and everyone was anxious to see what would happen.

Sadly last night various news stations reported that little Ashleigh has contracted Pneumonia and was in the final stages of life...

She is still holding on and we are keeping her and her family in our thoughs.

Zuma's Royal welcome

Jacob Zuma is in the United Kingdom for his state visit. He has been recieved well by the Queen, the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and other government officials...

However the British media has been less than flattering towards our President. Insults have been flying and even some of the more prestigious newspapers have been rather rude about him and his personal life.

But JZ has not taken this commentary lying down! He has shot back and hopefully the childish banter will now come to an end.

We support President Zuma and think that his personal life is exactly that- personal and has nothing to do with running a country!

Several celebrations are taking place today across the nation to signify the start of the 100 day count down!

If you get the chance to join in the fun- then why not head on down to Maud Street in Sandton today before 3pm- a street party is taking place in honour of the count down and promises to be alot of fun.

We can't wait for the Soccer World Cup and know that every game will be outstanding!

Earthquake in Chile

Another devastating earthquake has struck again. This time in Chile.

Three days ago- Saturday an earthquake registering a wopping 8.8 magnitude hit a small Chilean province. Although the death toll is much lower than Haiti's at this time, over 700 people have still been killed.

There has been no call for International aid at this time but countries are standing by incase help is needed. Sadly the death toll is expected to rise!

We are keeping the Chilean people in our thoughts and hope that the situation does not worsen!
